Youth Suicide Prevention

Do you know a young person who has experienced loss and trauma in his/her life? Is he/she responding to these experiences by:

  • Using Alcohol and Drugs?
  • Neglecting his/her education?
  • Abusing his/her Body?
  • Engaging in Negative Relationships?
  • Attempting self-harm or suicide?

A pilot program "Hope Lives" was funded by the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region in 2004-2005. This program served 11 teenage girls, and our findings were unbelievable. All the girls referred to "HOPE LIVES", had an extensive history of Mental Health Counseling and Psychiatric Treatment, and each girl had at least one inpatient hospitalization and up to 36 hospitalizations in the last 4 years for self-mutilating and suicidal behavior. Our preliminary results are amazing. 100% of the girls who started the program finished it, 100% of the girls were not re-hospitalized, and have not been re-hospitalized since completion of the program, and 100% of the girls treated report a significant decrease in self-destructive and depressive symptoms.

CHAPS
Academy
provides a 6-month equine assisted counseling program to youth that are at risk for suicidal and self-harming behaviors.

Our "HOPE LIVES" program offers an intensive outpatient counseling program for youth and their entire family. 2 sessions a week are provided, along with county, school and community collaboration. Opportunities for Community Service are offered, and the ability to participate in Leadership Training Seminars. Although current programming is targeted at teenage girls, services for younger children and adolescent boys is also available.

ADHD/Autism Program

Children dealing with Attention Deficit/ Hyper Activity Disorder, Autism, and Aspergers hold many special gifts that are often overlooked due to the behaviors sometimes associated with these disorders.

At
CHAPS Academy we work with children and their families, including siblings, to bring out these special gifts. We do this through building self-confidence, developing stronger problem solving skills, increasing social skills and improving communication, verbally and non-verbally.

A growth and learning, leadership building process, using horse assisted activities are utilized here at CHAPS. Our sessions are 50-60 minutes in length, and can be individual /family sessions, or groups of 2 or 4 individuals at a time.

To have your child and family become involved with
CHAPS Academy’s Special Gifts program, call to schedule an individual intake appointment, where you will be given a tour of the facility, and provided with service recommendations for you families specific needs.

Below are listed the sessions available, and the costs involved. CHAPS may be able to provide partial or full funding assistance to families who have low income on an first come first serve basis, as funding becomes available. No one is turned away due to an inability to pay for services, although you may have to wait for funding. Individual Sessions scheduled by appointment.
